NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - Ordinance Modifying Local Income Tax Rates for Public Safety in Boone County, Indiana

PLEASE NOTE AN UPCOMING PUBLIC HEARING - Monday, August 17, 2026, at 7:00 PM 

The Thorntown Town Council is set to hold a Public Hearing on Monday, August 17, 2026, regarding an Ordinance Modifying Local Income Tax Rates for Public Safety in Boone County, Indiana.  This ordinance, a copy of which is linked below, would increase the existing Public Safety Local Income Tax Rate from .50% to .51% in order to provide additional funding for public safety purposes and support the volunteer fire departments serving Boone County. The second reading and vote for this ordinance will take place on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Thorntown Town Hall, 101 W. Main St., Thorntown, IN 46071, at the Thorntown Town Council meeting.  Please note that Thorntown is only one member of the County Local Income Tax Council.  A majority Local Income Tax Council vote will be required by September 1, 2026, to ensure any additional amount of tax revenue may be distributed to the requesting volunteer fire departments during the 2027 calendar year. 

Written suggestions or objections concerning this ordinance may be filed wit hthe Clerk-Treasurer, at or before such meeting, and will be heard by the Town Council.  Interested persons desiring to present their views, either in writing or verbally, will be given the opportunity to be heard at the above-mentioned time and place.
